My AC went out in July and that $350 diagnostic fee taught me a lesson about home warranties

The repair guy said it was a bad capacitor which costs $15 online but he charged me $280 for the part and labor, and now I wonder if the $40 monthly warranty payments are really worth it for next summer.

(bad capacitor which costs $15 online)" is exactly why I just watch YouTube and fix that little part myself.

My $400 fridge repair last August was the moment I switched sides on home warranties too. I used to tell everyone they were a waste of money, but that one capacitor replacement bill basically paid for three years of warranty payments by itself. Now I just keep the cheapest plan they offer and sleep better knowing the big stuff is covered.
