I finally fixed my old cast iron pipe after 4 days of wrestling with it

So the drain under my kitchen sink in my 1920s bungalow in Decatur started backing up. I figured it'd be a quick snake job, maybe an hour tops. Nope. Spent 2 days just trying to get the old galvanized pipe off because everything was rust welded together. Day 3 I gave up and rented a pipe threader from Home Depot for 50 bucks. Then day 4 I realized the pipe was actually cast iron and had a crack I missed. Once I replaced that section it worked fine. Total time was probably 12 hours of actual work spread over those days. Does anybody else find that old Atlanta houses hide problems way worse than you expect? Or am I just unlucky with my plumbing?

Spent all weekend on my 1950s house in East Atlanta just to find out the previous owner painted over a leaky pipe. Classic Atlanta. They hide everything behind lathe and plaster.
