Had to choose between a new roof and a new HVAC system last month
I got quoted $12k for a roof and $8k for a new AC unit. I picked the roof because water was already dripping into my attic near Piedmont Park. It took 3 days and the crew did a solid job but now my house is a sauna in this Georgia heat. Anybody else been stuck between two costly home repairs like this?

Man, that’s a rough spot to be in. I had a similar thing a couple years back with my water heater and my washing machine. The water heater went out first, so I fixed that, and then my washing machine died a week later. I was like, seriously? I ended up doing the laundry at my buddy’s place for a month because I couldn’t swing both. It’s always something, right? I hope you find a deal on that AC unit before you melt.

...but hold up, the AC unit should be quite a bit cheaper than $8k. I mean I know prices vary but for a standard unit that seems high unless you got some crazy high-end system or a really complicated install. I paid $4,500 for mine a couple years back and it's been fine through these hot summers. Maybe get a second quote before you pull the trigger on that. And yeah, the roof was the right call for sure, water damage is no joke especially near Piedmont Park where you probably get some good storms rolling in.
