Appreciation post for my old water heater after the new one failed

My 15 year old water heater finally died last month. I bought a new high efficiency model from a big box store, paid $1,200 for it. The thing started making a high pitched noise after 3 days. Plumber said it was a bad thermocouple right out of the box. Now I'm sitting without hot water for a week waiting for a replacement part. The old one never gave me any trouble for over a decade straight. Has anyone else had bad luck with these new energy saver models?

And my old one kept chugging along with zero issues for 13 years before I bought that same kind of fancy energy saver.

My old fridge lasted 15 years before I finally swapped it out for something newer.
