Dropped $89 on a light pollution filter and I honestly can't tell if it did anything
Bought a clip-in LP filter for my camera back in March, mostly for shooting from my backyard near downtown Phoenix where the sky is just orange soup. The guy at the shop swore it would cut through the sodium glow and pull out nebula detail. I've shot Orion and Andromeda twice each, filter on and filter off, same night, same settings, and when I stack them side by side the difference is maybe 5 percent less background wash. For $89 I was hoping for more than "slightly darker blacks." I get that filters can't fix a Bortle 8 sky but reviews made it sound like a night and day thing. Do these only help under dark skies, or did I just get a dud batch?
