TIL a cheap climbing rope from a big box store cost me $150 in emergency gear replacement after it frayed on a simple removal.
Has anyone found a decent mid-priced brand that holds up better?

Learned this the hard way last season. I switched to Sterling ropes after a similar mess with a store brand. Their basic dynamic line is way more durable for not a huge jump in price. Check the sheath for tight, even weaving before you buy anything. That cheap rope felt fuzzy right out of the bag, should have been my first clue.

Yeah that fuzzy feeling is such a red flag. Swore off the budget stuff after my rope got all chewed up on a simple top rope day. Been way happier with a basic Bluewater line since then, just feels solid.
