That 1950s toaster I snagged in Portland gave me a scare

I bought this old Sunbeam for $15 and it worked fine for a week, then the cord started smoking during my morning toast. Took it apart and the wiring was totally frayed, so I replaced it with new cloth cord and it's back to perfect, but now I always check the cord on anything electric before I plug it in. Anyone else had a vintage appliance almost catch fire on them?
