DAE hit a number that made them rethink their whole rule about not buying broken stuff?
I have been going to the Kane County flea market in Illinois for about 6 years and I always had this hard rule that I would never spend more than $5 on anything with a missing piece or a crack. Figured it was junk and I would just be stuck with it. Then last month I counted up what I actually got for my money and it was 14 items in one morning for $38 total, and 9 of them were stuff I fixed with a little glue or a new screw. There was a 1930s toaster with a busted cord that I rewired for $6 in parts and it works better than my new one. I sat down and did the math and my whole rule cost me way more than it saved because the clean stuff always gets priced high. What finally got me was a chipped stoneware crock marked $4 that I almost walked past, and a guy next to me said he had the same one at home and it sold for $60 online. So now I look at broken stuff first instead of last. Anyone else change their mind on damaged pieces after a certain trip or am I just late to this?
