Spent 9 hours last Saturday trying to find a town called 'Pleasant Gap' on an 1847 map, turned out it was just a coffee stain
I zoomed in on that brown blob near the Virginia border at least 40 times, cross-referenced three county histories, and even emailed a librarian in Roanoke, only to have my wife walk by and say 'that's a stain, dummy' - so now I'm wondering, does anyone else keep a literal stain cheat sheet taped to their desk to avoid this mess?
