Update: Found a spliced zone wire behind a panel in Tacoma, and it was hidden from me for 3 days
Last week I got called to a house in Tacoma because the back door zone kept showing fault with the door closed. I meter the loop and get 4.7k, but it bounces to 2.1k when the furnace kicks on. Three days of chasing this thing, and I finally pull the can off the wall in the hall closet. Somebody before me had twisted two wires together and taped it, and the tape was hiding a bare spot touching the stud. The whole run was reading fine until that furnace warmed up the wall and pushed the splice loose. It was 11 inches from the panel the whole time. So check your old splices before you blame the sensor, and has anyone else seen a hidden splice cause a fault only when HVAC runs?
